The problem

Radar guns are expensive, and guessing your pitch speed never feels right. Been there, done that.

That's why we developed Baseball Speed where you just record your pitch, mark where the ball starts and stops, and instantly get an accurate speed.

Works for fastballs, changeups, curveballs, and sliders - in the bullpen, at practice, or in your backyard. Softball pitchers can clock their speed too.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free app to measure pitching speed without a radar gun?

Baseball Speed is a free app for Android. You record a short video of your pitch, mark where the ball starts and stops, and get your speed in mph. Over 7,000 people have used it to check how fast they throw.

Can I measure my pitch speed from a video?

Yes, that's the whole point of the app. Record your pitch, mark the frame where the ball leaves your hand and the frame where it reaches the plate, and you get an accurate speed right away. No radar gun needed.

How accurate is it compared to a radar gun?

It records at a high frame rate and works out the speed from the frames you mark, so with a clear video it lines up closely with real radar gun readings. The steadier your recording, the better the result.

Is Baseball Speed free?

The app is free to download and try. There's an optional paid upgrade if you want to unlock the full set of features.

Does it work for softball too?

Yes. You can set any distance, so it works for softball pitches, youth fields, bullpen sessions, long toss, or a throw across the backyard.

Do I need any extra equipment?

No. Just your phone and its camera. There's no radar gun, sensor, or special gear to buy.

What devices does Baseball Speed work on?

It's on Android for now. You can get it on Google Play.

How do I measure my speed with the app?

Record a video of your pitch, mark the frame where the ball leaves your hand and the frame where it reaches the catcher, set the distance (60.5 feet from the mound to home plate), and the app calculates the speed for you.
